Rivethead is a Dallas TX band that’s dominated the local scene and is making waves as they make moves on a national level. Already the theme music for the Dallas Stars’ Power Play and 3rd down for the Cowboys, not to mention themes for shows like That Metal Show and MTV promos  are all Rivethead.  So to say Rivethead is going places is a bit of an understatement.  They released their ninth album, Fix Our Enemy on May 5, 2017.

Fix Our Enemy has a very unique sound to it, heavy yet poppy, sort of like Powerman 5000 meets Buck Cherry or some other unexpected juxtaposition. While not death or black metal, Rivethead, crafts fairly heavy tracks that are very “fist pumpy” and catchy.  Tracks such as “Start A Revolution” or “Better Get Up” bring to mind Drowning Pool’s “Bodies”, head bobbingly memorable but still heavy enough that they are capable of making a mark in both the underground scene, as well as being mainstream radio ready.  And let’s be honest who cannot relate to the drudgery of the mundane, which provokes growls from Page on the track “The Worst Day”?

Fans of Five Finger Death Punch, Papa Roach, or Drowning Pool will definitely want to add Fix Your Enemy to their collections.  The tracks are good, the energy contagious, and who doesn’t want to fist pump with your bros (or girls) every now and again?”

“To end a busy day one I went back to catch some of Rivethead’s set. Ten years I’ve been doing this, going to as many (mostly local) shows as I possibly could and running this site and for ten years I’ve always heard about Rivethead, who has been around even longer than that. I had never seen them, though. Not sure how I’ve managed that, but this would be my first time witnessing the local favorites. They were clearly deserving of the headline spot at this main stage, commanding the largest crowd yet as everyone cut loose to their brand of metal, drummer Wayne Stokely and bassist Laura Paleczka giving every song an incredibly thick tone, perfect to bang your head to. Steve Page chatted up the audience when he could, during the breaks between songs, the singer and rhythm guitarist creating more of bond with the listeners, as it made them feel more personable. “Rivethead is a local Dallas band that has had their fair share of publicity and then some; everything from film, tv, NHL’s Dallas Stars, radio, satellite radio, and more. Even though they had a short set, due to such large lineup, Steve Page and the the band managed to jam pack it with hard hitting tunes and some awesome covers! We heard their song, “Super Zero”, off their newest album, Doomsday for Optimism, as well as “Regret” before the band broke into AWOLNATION‘s “Sail”. “If you’re into Static-X – heavy drums, pounding guitar and intense lyrics – you need to familiarize yourself with RivetHead. Steve Page, Kevin Kerr, Derek James and Mark Halford have been killing it in Dallas for some time now – responsible for the kick-ass theme song behind the NHL’s Dallas Stars. They’ve also dropped seven friggin’ albums, including their latest: “Doomsday for Optimism”. Lead singer Page says “This is our biggest, baddest release yet! Without wearing out the word ‘epic’, it really is massive.”

“Absolutely grinding, ride-the-riff industrial coming from Texas. Just the way I like it. Groove intense, melody heavy. Nothing wrong with some metal that you can shake your ass to. Well, as long as it’s not my ass. “Super Zero” is about as good an industrial killer as I’ve heard in a while, with it’s monstrous riff, techno flourishes, and non-stop freaking grind. Reminds me of an ugly, lovefest product of NIN and Ministry. Or more appropriately, sounds like a lost (and better) track from ’90’s grinders, Orgy. Rough vocals and killer beat. Hell yes. The rest of the album hangs just as well. “Deaf Ears” ups the sythn aspects, bringing in a darker NIN mood but no less pounding when that buzzsaw guitar kicks in. Touches of goth darkwave drape over the riveting beats, like a funeral pall, and it all works well. Songs like “Vampire” and “Buried Another One” are just waiting for their chance to appear in some cool Dark Ones underground bar scene.”

Really well put together in all departments from the mesh of the drums and electronics to the guitars and the vocals. Great tension in the opening riff reminded me of the original “Assault On Precinct 13” movie somehow – and as you’d expect – the references to industrial metal are throughout. Great drops too. This isn’t one of those Oz fest bands, but they are one of the few modern metal bands that I think is different and doing something new and exiting and if this band can’t get signed, then these labels need to wake up and smell the coffee. “RIVETHEAD is an unsigned band based in Texas . Members are all from Texas except for the singer/guitarist Steve being from U.K. They have packaged an industrial heavy rock music on their self-titled third release. From start to finish, they symbolize solid rock music decorated by industrial/electro sound. Guitars are heavy, rhythms are groovy and vocals are tough and strong. Even though they incorporate digital sounds into their rock music, they never sound too inorganic. Their strength is a hookey, not necessarily catchy, vocal melody that builds dynamically throughout. They reminded me a little bit of ROB ZOMBIE at some parts. This sort of style is not really my kinda music, but I could enjoy the CD for the band plays very solid and the production is top-notch. My favorite is track 12 “Time Bomb”. Well-done for an unsigned group.”
